Sistematiese atlaswerk in Hessequa - volprotokol-kaarte benodig deur besoekers

Die U3A Stilbaai Voëlgroep is sedert 2015 besig om die 75 pentades wat die Hessequa munisipale gebied dek, sistematies te atlas. Die gebied strek van die Gouritsrivier in die ooste tot by die Breederivier in die weste, en van suid na noord tussen die see en die Langeberge. In die weste volg die grens die Breederivier van die see tot by Malgas en sny dan stapgewyse weg in ‘n noordelike rigting tot by Grootvadersbosch.

Die sistematiese atlas het oor ‘n aantal jare ontwikkel, maar het nou gestabiliseer op ‘n stelsel waar elke pentade twee keer per jaar ge-atlas word en die gebied in ‘n skaakbordpatroon gedek word. In jaar een word die eerste pentade in die somer en winter ge-atlas en al die aanliggende pentades in die herfs en lente. Die pentades aanliggend aan laasgenoemde word dan weer in die somer en winter ge-atlas. In jaar twee word die patroon omgeruil sodat die somer en winter pentades van jaar een in die herfs en lente ge-atlas word, ens. Dit beteken dat elke pentade vier keer in ‘n siklus van twee jaar ge-atlas word; een keer in elke seisoen. Die seisoene is soos volg:

• Somer – Desember, Januarie en Februarie

• Herfs – Maart, April en Mei

• Winter – Junie, Julie en Augustus

• Lente – September, Oktober en November

Die enigste uitsondering op die reël is die Voëlgroep se twee tuispentades rondom Stilbaai wat vier keer elke seisoen ge-atlas word. Dit gee ‘n totaal van 178 volprotokolkaarte per jaar.

Die U3A Stilbaai Voëlgroep sal enige hulp van besoekers aan ons gebied baie waardeer. Hieronder is skakels na skematiese kaarte van Hessequa vir elke seisoen. Die pentades waar volprotokol-kaarte benodig word is in grys getoon.

Die pentades se name is soos deur die U3A Stilbaai Voëlgroep gebruik word, maar die pentadenommers word ook gegee.

1. Hessequa Somer pentades (Des, Jan, Feb)

2. Hessequa Herfs pentades (Mar, Apr, Mei)

3. Hessequa Winter pentades (Jun, Jul, Aug)

4. Hessequa Lente pentades (Sep, Okt, Nov)

Systematic atlasing in Hessequa - full protocol cards required by visitors

The U3A Stilbaai Bird Group has systematically atlased the 75 pentads of the Hessequa municipal area since 2015. This area covers the area from the Gouritz River in the east to the Breede River in the west, and from south to north between the ocean and the Langeberg. In the west the border follows the Breede River to Malgas and then cuts away stepwise in a northerly direction to Grootvadersbosch.

The systematic atlasing evolved over a number of years but has now stabilised on a system where each pentad is atlased twice a year and the area is covered in a chessboard pattern. In year one the first pentad is atlased in summer and winter and all the pentads adjacent to it are atlased in autumn and spring. The ones adjacent to these are then again atlased in summer and winter. In year two this is reversed so that year one’s summer and winter pentads are then covered in autumn and spring, etc. This means that over a cycle of two years each pentad is atlased four times, once in every season.
The seasons are as follows:

• Summer – December, January and February

• Autumn – March, April and May

• Winter – June, July and August

• Spring – September, October and November

The only exception to the above is the Bird Group’s two home pentads around Stilbaai that are atlased four times every season. This amounts to 178 full protocol cards per year.

The U3A Stilbaai Bird Group will appreciate any help it can get from visitors to Hessequa. Below are links to schematic maps of Hessequa with pentads where full protocol cards are required shown in grey.

Please note that the pentad names are those used by the U3A Stilbaai Bird Group, but their numbers are also given.
